Being a Queen’s Guard
The famous soldiers in the large bear-skin hats and red uniforms have had their iconic uniform since the 1900’s.
One of the big rumors about the Queen’s Guard is that they aren’t allowed to move or react to anything. To a point, this is true; Guardsmen are required to remain as dedicated to their post as possible. They do take 20 paces once an hour to keep themselves awake; sometimes, they do pass out from the heat or other problems. Guards are trained to fall straight over if this happens.
If they do lose their composure in at their post, a guard can have their pay docked. If the guards are faced with particularly unruly members of the public, they’re instructed to come to attention and give a short verbal warning. If this doesn’t work, they will point their bayonet at you.
Because the uniforms are so hot, the guards are instructed to drink large quantities of water before their two hour shift. According to guards that have been in the service a while, they are instructed to just go ahead and relieve themselves; the wool is dark enough that the stains won’t show.)
